Disaster Recovery

Recently a Sherwood-Tech customer experienced a burglary which could have had devastating consequences for business operations.  Several desktop PC's and their file server were stolen over the weekend. Loss of the server in particular was potentially disastrous, since so much of the customer's current work-in-progress, outstanding bids, and business history were all stored there.

Fortunately Sherwood-Tech had already set up a daily backup procedure, with regular off-site storage of the backed up data. Thanks to this simple disaster-recovery procedure, the customer had a safe copy of 100% of their server files. And within 1 business day, Sherwood-Tech had arranged a temporary solution to make all those files available until a replacement server could be delivered and set up. Once the new server was delivered, Sherwood-Tech restored data, rebuilt the network, and got everyone running normally again.

Database/Web Security

A web-enabled membership association faced a major service crisis when its site was hacked with a large number of malware links peppered throughout the content. Analysis by Sherwood-Tech determined the source was a sophisticated SQL-Injection attack against their back-end content database, exploiting a common security weakness in the design of web pages. Mass text scanning of web code identified all the vulnerable programming locations. Working in partnership with a web programming specialist, we used global search-and-replace tools to modify the code and eliminate the vulnerabilities throughout hundreds of pages. Database update queries removed all the inserted links without losing any original site data. Periodically scanning web log files over several days confirmed that further attacks by the hackers failed to locate any new weaknesses, and the site has remained intact since.

Business relocation

When a local printing company needed to move into new offices, they hired Sherwood-Tech to manage relocating their networked computers and telephone system. During the remodeling of the new site, Sherwood-Tech installed network cabling and telephone wiring, all terminated in a central utility closet with standard punch blocks and patch panels for reliability and ease of maintenance. The actual move of computers, telephones and the PBX system was completed over a single weekend in order to minimize disruption to customers and operations. By Monday morning, their systems were up and running, better than before!
